Minimum age for armed forces marriage visas

UKBA – Today the Immigration Rules relating to marriage visas have changed for serving members of the armed forces.

We are lowering the marriage visa age to 18 for serving members of the armed forces and their partners. This recognises the partners’ role in supporting those on the front line, and reflects the unique circumstances in which the armed forces operate.

With effect from 6 April 2010, we have lowered the minimum age at which a person may be granted permission to come to or stay in the UK (also known as ‘leave to enter or remain’) as the spouse, civil partner, fiancĂ©(e), proposed civil partner, unmarried partner or same-sex partner of a serving member of HM Forces. The minimum age, which was 21 years, is now 18 years.
