Situation of Coptic Christians in Egypt

October 14, 2011 by Webmaster

Federation of Muslim Organisations is concerned with the recent unrest in Egypt which has seen a tragic loss of several lives following clashes between different groups.  Federation PR Officer Suleman Nagdi said “The Arab Spring initially gave us the hope that the people of Egypt would come together united in an attempt to build a free and prosperous state where peace would flourish.  It is deeply troubling that we observe the present situation where members of the Coptic Christian community have been killed in clashes with security forces. I urge the transitional powers in Egypt to reign in the violence and to put in place measures to protect minorities of all backgrounds in Egypt. As the country finds its democratic path, it must ensure that respect and acceptance are part and parcel of their new found status and that the country doesn’t take backward steps. Coptic Christians are proud Egyptians and must be an important part of the peaceful future which we all pray that Egypt builds”.
