Charities’ plea over failed asylum seekers

Thousands of failed asylum seekers are being left destitute before they are either deported or are able to legally challenge the decision.

A freedom of information request made by Inside Housing to the Home Office reveals 93 per cent of the 57,136 ‘further submissions’ made by failed asylum seekers with fresh evidence to support their claims had their cases rejected or were left awaiting a decision, between January 2009 and June 2012 (see box: In numbers).
